A Salt & Battery, West Village NYC

With another winter storm on the way, Joel and I headed to Greenwich Village to stock up on the essentials — fried foods and candy. To start things off we made our way to A Salt and Battery, the famed fish and chips joint. We ordered the classic, haddock and an order of chips. The haddock was cooked to perfection and covered in a light and airy, yet still crispy coating full of flavor that didn’t overwhelm the fish. Topped off with some Sarson’s Malt Vinegar, this fried treat didn’t disappoint. The chips didn’t disappoint either: they were cut thick, like true English chips and cooked to crispiness. Aside from the fish and chips, the tartar sauce that came along side for dipping was the best I’ve ever tasted. It was tangy, garlicky and just the right consistency. These boys sure do know their English foods!

As if fried fish and potatoes weren’t enough, Joel and I went for THE ultimate fried treat — A fried Mars bar. Holy Crap, was this the best idea ever. Each bite revealed melted milk chocolate, soft nougat and silky caramel, all topped off with the classic light batter.

What a way to start our winter storm weekend! A trip here will not let you down — and don’t forget to try the Mars bar, a slice of heaven …
