This afternoon, Joel and I met up with our friend Bri to try out Char No. 4 in Brooklyn. As soon as we walked in and the smell of bacon filled my nostrils, I was happy with our choice. Being that we really wanted it to be warm outside, we fooled ourselves into it and sat at the outdoor patio.
Their brunch menu wasn’t too large but it did consist of several dishes that contained pork — reaffirming that we’d made a good choice. I chose a lighter option — Quince Yogurt with Granola and Lavender Honey and a heavy option — Cheesy Bacon Grits. The yogurt was sweet, yet mild and I really could taste the lavender. The grits were creamy and cheesy with a hint of sweetness from whole corn kernels. The best part however was the bacon topping the grits: it was thick cut and tasted of salty heaven. Joel went for the Cheesy Bacon Grits as well but with poached eggs on top. He enjoyed the creaminess and flavor that the eggs brought to the grits.
I enjoyed the brunch at Char No. 4, but I think I enjoyed the company more. It was a nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends.
