Ladyhawke is from New Zealand, so when I saw that tickets went on sale for her show at the Bowery Ballroom back in January, I made a quick purchase. The show did not disappoint, with 2 good opening acts — Peggy Sue from Brighton, England and Heartsrevolution from New York.
Peggy Sue came on as a three-piece, with 2 girls fronting the band playing a plethora of instruments. The offbeat-vibe was really appealing and they performed flawlessly. Next, Heartsrevolution came on screaming with a high energy set. The drummer pounded out fast-paced beats and was a thrill to watch along with front-woman Lo dancing all over the stage.
Finally, Ladyhawke came up after a bout of smoke in the theater (fire down the street). Her set was fantastic, performing almost every track off her killer debut album from last winter. The slick-sounding synths sounded excellent on Bowery’s sound system and Ladyhawke showed no hesitation playing her first NYC appearance. A quick encore of “My Delerium” ended the great night out.
