Vacation! Sharon and I took off for the Southwest to relax and enjoy the Land of Enchantment. My parents graciously offered their place at Zocalo for home base so we could explore Santa Fe, New Mexico. Upon arrival to our home for the week, Sharon, Mom, Dad and I went out for our favorite — Mexican food! (See Sharon’s restaurant reviews) Gabriel’s was Saturday night and Maria’s was Sunday before the parent’s headed home to Chicago on Monday morning.
We decided to get supplies for the week, for there was also something on the patio we have no access to here in NYC — a GRILL! Sharon and I picked out some peppers, fresh veggies, salmon burgers and more to keep us happy every night we weren’t wolfing down burritos or enchiladas. She quickly took the title of Grillmaster and I enjoyed every bite.
Our first hike of the week was at Tent Rocks, south of Santa Fe and down a gravel road — thank goodness we got a free upgrade to an SUV. A beautiful, slightly-challenging hike, the path wandered from desert landscape through meandering caverns to a breathtaking view on top of the adjacent mesa. We really enjoyed the climb and the journey, it was beautiful and the weather stayed sunny!
The next day we pampered ourselves at the world-class spa in northern Santa Fe, Ten Thousand Waves. I had never had a massage before, so I trusted that Sharon picked out the right kind (and she did!) — a Deep Stone Massage. After spending 2 good hours in our private tub/sauna/bath house, we were good and ready for the massage. It lasted about 75 minutes with pressure from smooth stones dipped in hot oil, I felt rejuvenated immediately.
We ended the day with our quest to try the Bon Appétit best burger in the United States — Bobcat Bite, slightly outside Santa Fe. The small diner was worth the wait, the burgers were amazing. Full and relaxed we headed home ready for the next, busy day.
