My cousin Justin turned 30 this weekend and his wife planned him a surprise birthday party! Sharon and I were excited to go, and help with the celebration. We took the ACES train after work on Friday, which was comfortable and a breeze. We finished catching up on Mad Men on the way!
Having never been to Atlantic City, it was definitely an experience and exactly what you picture. We stayed at the off-the-strip Borgata, a massive, new casino and hotel — the closest in the area to a Las Vegas joint. Between that and the boardwalk it was definitely the AC you picture, desolate and run down.
We quickly found the whole party and had a whirlwind tour of the casino and then the boardwalk. Stopping first for lunch at Pickles in the Bally’s casino, we all enjoyed giant pastrami or corned beef sandwiches. We then strolled off the meal before stopping for candy and enjoying another pitcher or 2 on the ocean.
For dinner we all fancied up to eat at Carmine’s in the Tropicana. A delicious meal served family-style, we were needlessly stuffed by dinner’s end. The place was packed with, what else, Bachelor and Bachelorette parties — lots of shouting and singing ensued!
We headed back to the Borgata for some late-night gambling where Sharon won 10 bucks and Justin won 100! All on penny (!) slots! Really good luck! We boarded the ACES train back in the morning, tired but happy with our earnings — Happy Birthday Justin!
