FiDi isn’t well-known for its nightlife, so when Joel and I heard that there was a whiskey and wine bar opening up only a mere two blocks away, we were excited to say the least. As whiskey is a favorite for both Joel and I, we made our way to Vintry Wine and Whiskey on opening night.
Located on Stone street amongst other Wall Street favs such as Ulysess’ and Harry’s Bar, Vintry is owned Peter Poulakakos, a well-known downtown restaurateur. The place itself is beautiful — dark, comfortable, sculptural. Leather bar stools line an amazing “flaming bubinga” wooden bar. The drink list is fantastic, spanning from Highland single malts to Japanese whiskeys to French bordeaux and port. Also included are cocktails made only from whiskey, the bar’s only liquor.
Joel and I along with our friend Pete enjoyed a few drinks while overlooking the crowds on Stone Street. I was suggested by the owner a super smokey and absolutely fantastic Caol Ila 12 year single malt scotch. It was everything I love in whiskey — smoke, smoke and more smoke. Joel enjoyed his favorite, an Old Fashion which he gave a big thumbs up to while Pete tried the Sazerac; another winner.
Joel and I are sure to make this one of our local joints being that the drinks are impressive, the service is great and the place itself is intriguing and inviting.
