Ni Hao, Macao

While we were able to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in Hong Kong, we decided to spend the actual day off in Macao! One 45 minute ferry ride and a customs check later and we were in Macao.

Macao is similar to Hong Kong in that it is an independent territory of China. However, Macao was originally settled by the Portuguese so there is an interesting mix of Portuguese style villas and Chinese decorations.

Macao is also famed as being the Vegas of the East which we can now attest to. Casino after casino and luxury shopping on par with Madison Avenue, it truly is a gamblers paradise. And while I love a good blackjack game, we were in Macao for the sites and some Portuguese food.

Our day consisted of wondering through the older district where we saw beautiful buildings, eating at an overpriced/touristy Portuguese restaurant, getting lost on small Chinese streets, seeing an incredible amount of meat jerky, braving the hottest weather we’ve ever encountered and eating Portuguese style egg tarts. All in all, a good day.
