The Big Buddha is a bit of a tourist trap, but I actually highly recommend a visit there. I think the best way to get there is via the 360 gondola. It’ll take you over the island where you can see just how green Hong Kong is.
Big Buddha is as expected – huge – but beautiful. The grounds are quite peaceful with Buddhists flags flying in the breeze, prayers being recited and the smell of incense wafting through the air. You can walk about 15 minutes away from the Buddha through the Wisdom Path and take a quick run through the incredibly ornate Po Lin Monastery.
We spent a few hours getting there and wondering around. Even though it was a gray day, it made for great photo lighting!
